The unmitigated gall of these "authorities" and so-called "experts" while they lie directly to our faces (we know they are lying and they know that we know) is truly a sight to behold.
Proof that you cannot change human nature, especially those that want power.
sadly totalitarian tendencies are the main factor that motivates people to hold public office. I see it at every level. To paraphrase an old maxim, "Those who can do -- Those who can't go into government".
